Kansas county election officers begin mailing advance voting ballots on Wednesday, Oct 14 - the first day state law permits. Ballots for applications already on file go out then; later applications are sent within two business days.
Counties may start in-person advance voting as early as Wednesday, October 14, 2026, and every county must start by Tuesday, October 27. Check your county for its dates and sites. Plan for your ballot to be received by your county election office, a drop box or a polling place in your county by the close of polls on Election Day, November 3. A court order currently also requires counting ballots postmarked by Election Day that arrive by the last mail delivery on Friday, November 6, but that order is under appeal and could change before the election.

Kansas sets one statewide city primary date: the first Tuesday in August of the election year, which in 2027 is Tuesday, August 3, 2027. It is only held where it is needed - broadly, when more than three candidates file for a district seat, or more than three times as many candidates as there are at-large seats to fill.
Tuesday, October 12, 2027 is the last day to register to vote in the November 2, 2027 city general election.
Kansas law puts every city's general election on the same day: the Tuesday following the first Monday in November. In 2027 that is Tuesday, November 2, 2027. School board elections are held on the same ballot.

Under Kansas statute, the deadline to return your ballot is the close of the polls on Election Day. A district court in Douglas County entered a statewide injunction requiring ballots postmarked by election day to be counted if a ballot arrives by the last postal delivery on Friday after the election.
