Absentee ballots require a qualifying reason (e.g. disability, religious observance, work/caregiving during all polling hours). A request for a ballot to be mailed must reach your clerk by noon Monday, Nov 2. In person, you can request and cast an absentee ballot at the clerk's office until 5:00 PM on Nov 2.
You can register in person at your polling place on Election Day (be in line before polls close). Before Election Day, registration with your town/city clerk or supervisors of the checklist closes at the final checklist session, which each town sets between Oct 21 and Oct 28, 2026 — check with your local clerk. Election Day registration at your polling place on Nov 3, 2026; you must be in line by the time polls close. Pre-election registration at the clerk's office closes 6–13 days before the election (the date varies by town, Oct 21–28).
Completed absentee ballots — mailed, delivered by you, or delivered by an eligible family member or care-facility delivery agent — must reach your town or city clerk by 5:00 PM on Election Day, Nov 3. Postmarks do not count, so mail it early.

In any state election, a town or city clerk shall not accept any completed absentee ballots delivered to the clerk after 5:00 p.m. on election day except as provided in RSA 657:21-a, V and RSA 659:20-a.
